I have become my parents; my aunts and uncles, my grandparents; my teachers; and my mentors. And, guess what? That is not such a bad thing.  As 2007 draws to a close, I find myself listening to the advice of my elders and reflecting on the year gone by and the new one about to dawn.  As I do so, the lens through which I look at both the year in the rear view mirror and the next opportunities on the horizon, is unabashedly filtered by my view of the world.  For that I make no excuse.  An optimist I may be but I am also a realist.

With that prelude, I look back at the past year reflecting on our accomplishments and shortcomings.  We must learn from both so as to improve in the New Year.

First and foremost, our successes are due to all of you.  You go to work every day in a very challenging environment to provide a vital public health service.  Or, you serve in an important support function for those that do. You, the people who make up the PHS Team are our most valuable resource.  Thank you for your caring and dedication.

We have accomplished a lot this year. You have served our clients well and improved on our service levels during the past twelve months.  There are also many clinical, operational, administrative and technology enhancements launched or in development.  Collectively, these service levels and tools help differentiate PHS from others serving the privatized correctional health care industry.  I am very proud of the progress made in 2007 and look forward to greater achievements in the coming year.  The horizon is indeed bright.

We are sorry to see some clients leave us.  For me, the harder part is saying farewell to those employees unable to stay with PHS.  We have, however, successfully retained many employees who have been willing to travel or relocate to serve other roles in PHS.  That willingness amazes me.  And, on behalf of PHS, I am honored that you have chosen to do so.

Though we had to face some very difficult business challenges this year, we have come through them stronger, with greater insight, and a burning desire to do everything possible to assure that we will perform better as a Company in the coming year.  We will build off the successes you achieve for us every day. With you, our PHS Team, I am confident we can deliver.
